Intro: When does a person receive the Holy Spirit? What happens next? Is everyone's experience the same? Does everyone who receives the Holy Spirit speak in tongues? People have a lot of questions about the Holy Spirit. We certainly won't answer them all this morning. However, we will look at some scripture today and see what the Bible has to say about some of these questions.
- Acts 19:6
- 1 Corinthians 12:4-11, 27-31
- 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Things to think about:
- Who is the Holy Spirit
- Christians receive the Holy Spirit the moment that they put their faith in Jesus Christ.
- The Spirit gives new life.
- The Spirit gives certain gifts to each believer.
- These Spiritual gifts are to serve at least two purposes
Take away for this week: Scripture teaches that when we turn from our sins and put our faith in Jesus for salvation, we are forgiven of our sins. We receive the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit then takes up permanent residence inside of the believer and gives us new life. He gives to each believer certain gifts that are to be used to build up the church and glorify God. He becomes evidence to the believer and to those around the believer that we are God’s child. We don't have to know all of the answers. We simply need to trust Him and His Word and allow Him to reveal the answers to us as we grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
